What is bilateral peering?

Definition: Bilateral peering is peering negotiated and established between exactly two parties.

Bilateral peering involves exactly two parties, as compared with multi-lateral peering, which involves potentially many parties sharing routes via a centralized route server.

Bilateral peering may involve a peering agreement called a Bi-Lateral Peering Agreement (BLPA).
